CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
DUE DATE: June 1, 2025
The 6th Annual Research Symposium “Dr. Carlos Disdier Rodríguez”, proudly sponsored by the Corporate Department of Graduate Medical Education will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025. All Fellows, Residents, Medical Interns and Students of any of the Educational Programs of our Hospitals system are encouraged to submit abstracts for any IRB approved clinical case and research project that are either completed or in progress. Abstracts will be scored by the research symposium review committee and selected participants will present their work. Awards will be given by each category Clinical Case, Research Project in progress and Research Project completed based on the scores provided by the participating judges.

- General
One presenter can present ONLY ONE abstract but participate as a co-author in more.
- Abstract Guidelines: All abstract submissions must adhere to the following criteria for standardized formatting:

- Abstracts must be submitted in English.
- Title: Your abstract title should be short and informative and must not exceed 200 Typed in lowercase except the first letter of the title.
- Authors and Institutions: These must be added into the special fields for this information, for the presenting author and each co-author – do not add any author details into the abstract body. All listed co-authors must have reviewed the abstract and accepted responsibility for its contents.
- Type of Presentation: The presenting author is invited to indicate on the form, his or her preference for oral or poster presentation. However, the highest-ranked abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. The final decision is of the reviewer and programme committee and will be influenced by the quality of the abstract.
- Abstract Body: The Abstract should not exceed 350 words. Please minimize the use of abbreviations and do not cite references in the abstract. Single-spaced; Times New Roman; 11pt. font. The abstract body should be presented as one single paragraph and must include the following sections:
- For Research Project (in progress or completed):
- Background: briefly state your rationale and hypothesis in 1-3 sentences without using abbreviations (should include the Problem/Significance and Objectives).
- Method: describe the experimental techniques in 1–3 sentences.
- Results (or Progress if no data): summarize major study findings.
- Conclusion: summarize major findings and state the study conclusions in 1–2 sentences. If the work is still in progress, describe the next steps.
- For Clinical Cases:
- Background: why the case should be reported and its novelty.
- Case presentation: a brief description of the patient’s clinical and demographic details, the diagnosis, any interventions, and the outcomes.
- Conclusions: a brief summary of the clinical impact or potential implications of the case report.
- IRB approved protocol number: This must be added into the special field for this information.

3. Submission

- The submitter signs for all co-authors. He/she accepts responsibility for the present rules for submission and presentation on behalf of all co-authors.

- Abstracts not submitted on the designated form or submitted via email will NOT be accepted.
- Deadline – all abstracts must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Sundayuly 19, 2024.
- Late submissions will not be accepted.

- Guidelines for Oral Presentation Format:

- Research Project completed or in progress: maximum 10-minute oral slide presentation.
- Clinical Case: 5-minute brief quick shot oral slide presentation limited to 5 slides
- The cover slide, also known as the first slide, must have Logo and brand of the Program you are representing. It is suggested that each program establish a unique first slide and ensure that each presentation is based on the same layout grid.
- Graphs, tables, and illustrations should be as simple as possible.
- The art should look clean and not dark.
- Make your presentation font size and graphic legible.

4. Guidelines for Poster Presentation Format:
-
- The poster dimensions are 54″ wide x 36″ high.
- Prepare a 5-6″ high headline strip that runs the full width of the poster. Include the Prgram Logo, title, authors, and affiliations on the strip.
- Posters should be legible at five feet.
- The poster’s message should be clear and comprehensible without verbal explanation. Resist the temptation to overload the poster.
- Posters are to be placed before 9:00 AM, on the assigned board and removed before 4:30 PM. Posters not removed by this time will be taken down and discarded.
- All presenters must be present at their poster to discuss her/his work during the Poster Session time.
- Any presenters failing to be present during their assigned poster session will forfeit of their participation certificate.
Acceptance notifications will be sent by July 26, 2024.
